In my work at a shelter for victims of intimate partner violence, I saw time and time again the sanctuary of this bond as women left bad relationships and moved through life’s challenges. The cut up Band-Aids used in this piece represent the healing that comes from the mother/child relationship, but also all of the ways mothers devise to protect their children.
